The Finished Project

See the posts below to read how this cabinet was reinvented to match my kitchen.

Antiqued cabinet and chalk painted the baskets

I decided to distress the cabinet by applying Valspar Antiquing Glaze to the crevices and corners.
Then I muted down the baskets to a lighter color by applying Waverly Celery chalk paint to the exterior of each one.

Repainted with color matched to kitchen cabinets

After removing the baskets, I first painted the entire piece with Zinsser BullsEye 1-2-3 Primer.  Then I applied beige spray paint to the interior.  (Brush painting the inside bars was a nightmare, so I gave up and bought three cans of Rustoleum high gloss beige and spray painted the entire interior cabinet.) For the enterior, I used Behr a light cream high gloss interior/exterior paint.  To help prevent brush marks, I added a small amount of Flotreol paint conditioner.

Here's the end result.  While it was nice, I thought it was too perfect and it didn't really show off the detail of the side paneling.

Found what I wanted, but in the WRONG color

For over a year, I'd been looking for the the perfect storage cabinet to handle the spillover of 'stuff' our modest kitchen could not accommodate.  I found the perfect piece at the Christmas Tree Shop for $100, complete with cute storage baskets. However, it was jet black and looked out of place in my neutral colored kitchen.  So, I refinished it. Here's the original, purchased cabinet.
